Maj. Gen. Jon Jensen of the Minnesota National Guard spoke with Dave Lee on WCCO-Radio this morning. He spoke on the status of the guard’s presence in the Twin Cities and what his hopes are.
Jensen has been focusing on Governor Tim Walz’s plan to deactivate the national guard and move them out of the Twin Cities as soon as they are no longer needed to help provide security and safety.
“Hopefully today we are gonna start seeing some Minnesota National Guard trucks headed north, south, east and west heading home,” Jensen said.
Jensen also spoke about the relations between protestors and guard members. He mentioned his soldiers who were stationed on the steps of the capitol for 17 straight hours. The soldiers took time to speak with those who were gathered to protest peacefully.
Jensen wants his soldiers to build a relationship with protestors and to keep everyone safe. He wants them to know that they are heard and that the guard is willing to listen.
“At the end of the day these citizens, they just want to be heard,” Jensen said, “they just want to have a conversation.”
