Minnesota senior US Senator Amy Klobuchar called on President Trump to end the lingering partial shutdown of the federal government, and read from a letter by a Minnesotan feeling financial pain by not getting paid for her federal job.

Klobuchar said the woman named Kathleen wrote the letter after recently getting a job with the US Department of Agriculture. Now, Klobuchar said, Kathleen is not getting paid.

"My funds are exhausted, she said, at this point in time I don't have the money to pay for my mortgage, of for child care for my daughter," Klobuchar read in the early part of the 4:36 address.

"She goes on to ask the question no parent should ask: Do I risk losing my home or do I risk having my daughter losing my daycare and then be unable to go to work when I'm recalled. She finishes by saying, this may be a story you have heard before, but I felt it needs to be shared until it is heard by the right ears."

Klobuchar gave a personal response to the letter.

"Kathleen, today a whole lot of people are hearing your story," she said.
