The head of the Lake St. Council Alison Sharkey spoke with Dave Lee this morning on WCCO-Radio about the current state of Lake St. in South Minneapolis. Sharkey has experience with business finance, real estate, commercial building renovation and much more. She is asking the community to help with rebuilding small businesses in the area.
“Lake Street means a lot to a lot of people and it's always been a place where people can come and get a start opening their business,” Sharkey said.
Lake St. has been where many protests and riots have taken place over the last week. However, Sharkey says it has been much quieter over the last two nights.
With several small businesses suffering from riots and looting they have started to ask for help. Already they have raised almost 2 million dollars for the small businesses that have suffered, but Sharkey says they are going to need a lot more.
Sharkey calls for anyone who has professional skills to help. For those who do not have any of the specific skills, Sharkey is asking them to donate on their fundraising website.
