The 26-year-old will make his 2019 major league debut soon while catcher Mitch Garver nurses a high ankle sprain. Garver, the team's 2nd-leading home run hitter with nine, was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Mitch Garver walked over in his boot. No bruising. Pain is manageable. He’s upbeat. Said the Shohei Ohtani slide was clean. As for the treatment, they’re playing it by ear. #MNTwins

It's not known when Sano will be in the lineup next. Sano appeared to have a productive spring training, but had been rehabbing a heel injury in the minors. He hit .316 with 2 home runs in 10 games.

The Twins wrap up the series against the Angels Wednesday afternoon with a chance to split, then welcome the Mariners, also of the American League West.
