In an historic settlement, the City of Minneapolis has agreed to pay the family of Justine Ruszczyk Damond $20,000,000.
Damond was the Australian native shot and killed by Minneapolis Police Officer Mohamed Noor in July of 2017, and Noor and his partner responded to Damond's 911 call about a possible assault behind her South Minneapolis home.
On Tuesday, Noor was found guilty by a Hennepin County jury of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. He'll be sentenced next month.
Damond's family had filed a civil-rights lawsuit, seeking $50,000,000.
As part of the settlement, $18,000,000 will go the Ruszczyk Damond family, and $2,000,000 will go to the Minneapolis Foundation For Safe Communities.
