Minnesota COVID-19 cases are trending younger and to bars

The Minnesota Department of Health says COVID-19 infections in Minnesota are trending to a younger age group these days, namely young people in their 20's who have been frequenting bars. State Infectious Disease Director Kris Ehresmann says they've traced more than 100 recent cases to two Mankato bars.

"A number of those younger adults work at child care facilities and these contacts now means that these facilities have to take precautionary measures. That will mean hassles for the children and the parents of those children. It's a sad example of how COVID works. Just because you feel you're not at risk that doesn't mean you can't get COVID and spread it to others."

Ehresmann says they're also investigating an outbreak at two Minneapolis bars, the Kollege Klub in Dinkytown and Cowboy Jacks in Uptown. She says anyone who may have been there between June 14th and 21rst is encouraged to get tested.

There have been 498 new coronavirus cases in the state since yesterday. That's the biggest one-day increase since May 3rd, and officials say it may be due to an increase in testing. There were five deaths yesterday.
