Eagan police are investigating after a young teenaged boy on a bicycle was struck and killed on his way to school Friday morning.

It happened on Diffley Road near Lexington Avenue just before 7:30 a.m.

Eagan Police Chief Roger New identified the boy as 13-year old Patrick Vitek, a seventh grader at nearby Dakota Hills Middle School.

The driver of the car that hit the boy was traveling east on Diffley in the center lane when the collision happened, and remained on the scene, according to police.

School administrators have sent a letter to parents informing them of the accident.

Counselors are on hand helping students during school hours.
