Armed standoff in New Brighton ends peacefully Thursday morning

An armed standoff ended after nearly 11.5 hours Thursday morning.

New Brighton Department of Public Safety said the situation had been resolved shortly after 6:15 a.m. and a suspect had been taken into custody.

The incident began late Wednesday night near Long Lake Road and 16th Street NW when police responded to a report of a domestic assault. As law enfocement helped a victim escape from a home, a suspect opened fire. No one was injured.

A suspect was barricaded inside of a home and Ramsey County SWAT assisted with negotiations. Those within a block of the scene were asked to shelter inside their basements prior to the situation being resolved.
