The state patrol says alcohol was a factor in a snowmobile crash in Aitken County that killed a Twin Cities man on Saturday night.

According to the report, 56-year-old Kyle Hegna of Chaska was driving his machine west-to-east across highway 169 in Macville Township, just south of Hill City, when he collided with a southbound vehicle.

The roadway reportedly was covered with snow and ice when the crash happened.

Hegna died at a local hospital, while no one else was hurt.

Officials say Hegna was wearing a helmet and that he had been drinking.

The state patrol report says the 37-year-old man from Palisade who was driving the southbound car was not drinking before the crash.
