Governor Walz this week is expected to announce just how students will return to Minnesota school buildings as the coronavirus pandemic rages on.

"It is still my intention for us to try and find a model to get as many students back in the buidlings as possible," Walz said earlier this month.

A survey released by Education Minnesota, the union that represents the state's teachers, shows just under half support distance learning in the fall.

The survey also showed 17 percent in favor of distance learning, with the rest supporting a hybrid of classroom education and online courses.

Kids began on-line classes in March when Gov. Walz declared a peacetime emergency and closed all of the state's public school buildings.

It stayed that way through the end of the school year, with extracirricular activities and traditional graduation ceremonies canceled.

While Wisconsin is preparing to stage fall sports, administrators with the Minnesota State High School League are waiting to find out details of the governor's school reopening plan.
