Dylan Bennett arrested in Mexico, accused of killing his parents in Long Prairie

The Todd County Sheriff's Office on Saturday said 22-year-old Dylan John Bennett was taken into custody in Mexico.

Bennett's accused of Killing his parents, Carol and Barry Bennett. They were found shot to death inside their Long Prairie, Minnesota home on Wednesday. Barry Bennett was a former defensive lineman who played 11 seasons, from 1978 to 1988, in the NFL including one of them with the Vikings.


During the investigation, investigators determined that Dylan purchased an airline ticket from Ohio to Cancun earlier this week. They had been tracking his cell phone, credit card, and ATM activity in Cancun since that time. That information was communicated to Mexican authorities through the FBI.

Dylan was taken into custody shortly before noon Saturday at a hotel in Cancun. Bennett contacted the Todd County Sheriff's Office on Saturday morning, shortly before the arrest, to tell them he would turn himself in to the FBI. His arrest came before Minnesota investigators could tell that information to Mexican authorities.

Bennett will be returned to Minnesota in the coming days. He faces two counts of second degree murder.
