The Elk River man accused of tossing screws onto roads in Sherberne County is official charged.
Prosecutors say 63-year-old Jeffrey Caouette admitted to throwing handfuls of screws as he drove about 20 times since late June to quote "slow down" what he believed was his ex-girlfriend's new relationship.
The screws were dropped on multiple roads around Big Lake and Zimmerman, where both the woman and her friend lived. Court documents say he purchased nearly 13,000 sheetrock screws in five-pound boxes.
Three Big Lake Police squad cars sustained about $700 in damage. The department reported more than 100 tire damage incidents in August alone.
If convicted on the charge of 1st-degree property damage, Caouette would face up to five years behind bars, a $10,000 fune, or both .
