The Mall of America announced that it is temporarily shutting down at least through the end of the month as concerns mount over the spread of COVID-19 in Minnesota.
"These are unprecedented times that require unprecedented efforts. We are confident we will get through these challenging times and look forward to reopening our doors to the Minnesota community and the world," Mall of America said in a statement posted to Twitter on Tuesday.

— Mall of America (@mallofamerica) March 17, 2020The closure, which goes in to effect at 5 pm on Tuesday, comes the day after Gov. Tim Walz ordered bars and restaurants in the state to close, and the CDC issued a recommendation for public gatherings to limited to 10 people.
"We must act responsibly and comply with Gov. Walz's order because it is the right thing to do for the state and our team members," the MOA statement reads.
The number of coronavirus cases in Minnesota jumped by six from Monday to Tuesday, with a total of 60 cases now reported statewide, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
