Crews rescue man stranded on cliff face below downtown St. Paul

No one was hurt after personnel rescued a man who became stuck on a cliff face below downtown St. Paul after apparently lowering himself from street level and trying to enter a cave in the middle of the night Sunday.

Crews used spotlights to assist in the daring rescue, which was captured on video.

Yesterday at 1:37am @StPaulFireDept Rescue Squad 3 performed a Technical Rescue of an individual at Wabasha and Shepard Rd. The individual was stuck 100’ above the ground with no way of getting down. A safe Rescue was performed and no injuries were reported. pic.twitter.com/o9rAFfjToL

The man was stranded about 100 feet from the ground above Shepard Road around 1:30 a,m. Sunday when he was rescued.  

St. Paul police say the man who was rescued managed to call 911.  

They also say he has no address, and was looking for a place to get warm.

Officials with the St. Paul fire department say they rescue serveral people every year trying to rapel down to the caves.

It's illegal to explore this and other caves in St. Paul, but police say this man will not be charged.
