Friends and family remembered the man who was shot and killed last week after attending a bible study class at a church in Saint Paul's Summit-University neighborhood.

Sunday's regular service at Saint Alban's Church of God in Christ was the first since Rayvel Carter died just outside its doors.

Carter was the nephew of church pastor William Land.

"I pray, whoever played a role in the murder of Ravel Carter, that they repent for their sins," Pastor William Land told the congregation.

Land is Carter's uncle, and chose not to focus on anger during his sermon.

"Rayvel died the way he lived, for the Lord and with his Bible," said Land. :If I focus on his death, I can't appreciate his life. But, if I focus on his life, I can appreciate that he was ready to die."

Memorial services for Carter take place Friday in Maplewood.

There still have been no arrests in his death.
