Charter Commission hears arguments regarding charter change amendment over 2 hour public hearing

Around 180 people signed up for a public hearing Tuesday evening about the proposal to change the Minneapolis city charter.

The 15-member appointed Charter Commission is working on an expedited timeline to potentially include the amendment on the November ballot. The deadline is August 21.


Over two hours, they heard impassioned, albeit 60-second, appeals.

The majority of speakers supported approving the city council’s proposal, which members argue allow them to take an important step in addressing the future of public safety.
