Baseball diamonds across Minnesota will sit quiet this summer after the executive committee for Minnesota American Legion Baseball canceled the season on Saturday.
In a virtual meeting, the committee cited the safety of players, coaches, umpires, fans and, volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic as a concern and reason to cancel the season.
Over 350 teams make up Minnesota American Legion Baseball, making it the largest in United States.
Saturday's announcement came the same day the Minnesota Department of Health reported there were 10,790 confirmed COVID-19 total cases in Minnesota with 558 total deaths.
Testing for the virus continues to climb with more than 4,700 tests performed since Friday.
