Unfinished business marks new week in St. Paul

Minnesota lawmakers have yet to pass any of the major bills set before them one week after their second special session of the summer began.

Unfinished business highlights the new week as both the House and Senate convene again Monday. Among the major bills yet to be passed include police accountability measures, a tax bill, and relief for riot-torn Minneapolis and St. Paul.


Leaders in the DFL controlled House and Republican controlled Senate say they are close to a bonding bill deal, but police bills remain a sticking point. Democrats are still pushing for a package of bills, put forth by the People of Color and Indigenous Caucus.

Senate Republicans were willing to pass a more limited set of changes that included a ban on the use of choke holds and requiring officers to intervene if they see a colleague using excessive force, but rejected several other Democratic proposals.
