New numbers from the state show that many people had a hard time adjusting to the new hands-free law.
During the first week it was on the books, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety says nearly 700 drivers were ticketed for violating the new law, which basically bans people from holding their cell phone while driving.
"I think it is an eye opener for people," said Lieutenant Gordon Shank with the Minnesota State Patrol. "We told people in the months leading up to this to plan ahead for this, and there were some people who didn't plan ahead."
Of the 678 citations issued, by far and away the most were issued in Hennepin County. The 286 tickets in Hennepin County were more than three times the next highest total.
