Files released on Friday detail the October 2018 kidnapping of Jayme Closs and the murder of her parents.
Closs, who was 13 at the time, was kidnapped by Jake Patterson, 22 at the time, the night of October 15, 2018. Patterson killed Closs's parents, James and Denise, inside their Barron, Wisconsin home before taking Jayme.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice released the case file, which includes thousands of documents, audio files, and police dash camera footage from the night Closs went missing.
In one of the videos, officers unknowingly pass Patterson's vehicle while responding to a 911 call placed by Denise Closs before her death. Inside the vehicle, Jayme Closs was being held against her will. Audio from a responding officer's body camera that night details how officers thought a suicide had taken place before realizing that a crime occurred.
Closs was held captive inside Patterson's home for 88 days and the case garnered nationwide attention. She eventually escaped Patterson's captivity in January 2019 and police arrested Patterson.
