For once, the Vikings and Packers will take the field and no one will see it.

That is, no one will be inside US Bank Stadium if the teams' NFL season opener is played as scheduled.

The Vikings on Tuesday announced that their first two home games will be played without fans because of coronavirus concerns,

That includes the Sept. 13 opener against Green Bay and the Sept. 27 game against the Tennessee Titans.

In a statement, Vikings officials say they based their decision on the current state guidelines that limits crowds at indoor events to 250 people.

"Ultimately, public health is our top priority," read the statement.

Team leaders say they'll work with state, local, and NFL officials to determine the best and responsible way to bring fans back to the games.

After their first two home contests, the Vikings aren't scheduled to play at home until Oct. 18 against the Atlanta Falcons.
