Two people are dead after a high-speed police chase near Owatonna.
It started before noon Thursday when Owatonna Police were called to a reported domestic violence incident of a man striking a woman, according to the department. Two people took off in a BMW before police arrived.
Soon after, an officer spotted the car on a surface street, which then went south on I-35 and a chase ensued at high speeds. As the car exited it collided into a post at the end of the offramp.
Forty-two-year-old Louis Bennett and 24-year-old Sauda Maani of Rochester were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries.
It's not clear if the passenger was the victim of the reported assault.
