Crews searched into the night for a six-year-old child reported missing in the Mississippi River near downtown Minneapolis.
Officials say the boy was among a group of five children who were bike riding on Boom Island, and went wading into the water.
"There is a very significant drop-off," said Hennepin County sheriff's deputy Tracy Martin. "The current, it's very dangerous in that area."
The search area is adjacent to the footbridge that connects Boom Island and Nicollet Island.
Gail LaFleur, the boy's grandmother, was at the scene all night and doesn't plan to leave until the child is found.
"My gut said they were out too far, I said they were in trouble, they're out too far," Lauri Solle told WCCO's Paul Douglas.
Two adults were supervising the children and were able to rescue two of them from the water.
"Watch your kids, be careful," LaFleur said. "This is not a lake, this is the river, and the river just took him away. And they could do nothing about it."
The sheriff's Water Patrol was called about 6:20 p.m. Saturday concerning the missing child.
