It’s turned into a very snowy autumn. Prior to this snow Monday morning, we already had about 16 inches of snowfall in the Twin cities. Now, also going to be extremely cold.

Temperatures are crashing down to the single digits this afternoon in the Twin Cities and are going below zero up in the northern part of the state.  There have been a number of accidents in the metro area, and the roads and ramps are icy.

By tonight all of Minnesota will be below zero: in the Twin Cities probably about five to 10 below, while up north it could be colder than 20 below.

And that just actual temperatures. We're going to see wind chills tonight in the Twin Cities, possibly as cold as the minus twenties. There will be more cold air tomorrow and Wednesday, but at least the winds will die off a little bit, with the highs only in the lower single digits, and the lows well below zero.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Caleb Grunzke says the normal high for this time of year is about 29 and normal lows are about 14.

"We see these types of temperatures in January, but early December it's a little more unheard of. It has happened before, but, I'd say this is more like a mid to late January air mass that we're dealing with," he said.

The cold does have an upside, however:

Ugh, Twin Cities just get cold so we can freeze the rinks. I'm tired of this shit. I've reached the level of stir crazy that I will go outside to ice skate because an indoor rink is too far away.
