Police in St. Paul are warning individuals about thieves who are taking extreme measures to try and ruin the holiday season.
Police on Thursday shared footage from an incident that happened over the weekend where a female shopper was robbed of her purse and dragged by a car during the struggle. The robbery happened around 5:20 p.m. Sunday outside Hmong Village on the 1000 block of Johnson Parkway.
"She had just finished shopping and was putting things into her trunk and that's when the suspects rolled up on her," said police spokesman Steve Linders. "Thankfully she wasn't injured."
The car dragged the woman about 75 yards before she was able to break loose, suffering just bumps and bruises.
Linders says they are following up on about 20 cases of purse snatchings from all over the city, many times happening in the parking lots of shopping areas.
"We believe the same people are involved and we need the public's help in finding them before they hurt someone more seriously," he said.
St. Paul police are adding more patrols as a precaution. They're also investigating after someone stole a red kettle from a Salvation Army Location on Monday.
