Good news for a Minnesota Vikings linebacker who's positive COVID-19 test revealed a serious heart issue.
Cameron Smith opted out of the 2020 season after it was discovered he had a congenital heart condition.
Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer says Smith underwent surgery Monday, and that it was successful.
"We're happy about that. (Doctors) were able to repair the heart, and he's in good shape."
Smith says he tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month, and that further tests revealed the heart issue. Smith says doctors told him it could have been fatal if left untreated.
Smith appeared in five games as a rookie for the Vikings last season.
