That's because on Tuesday and Wednesday Minnesotans will feel some of the coldest air in over 20 years. Munger said two weeks ago the problem wasn’t the cold it was out lack of snow.
“There really hadn’t been any snow in the forecast for like a month,” said Munger. “No snow on the ground, a lot of people were like ‘have you made the decision to change the event to Wirth only?’”
Luckily, Sunday’s snowstorm brought a much-needed six-inches of snow fall, allowing athletes to use the full course from Bde Maka Saka to Theodore With Regional Park and the cold will help with the event.
“It’s great, because you know, six-inches is not a lot of snow for us and if we felt like there was going to be temperatures creeping above freezing, or some snowmelt, we’d be much more nervous about the event,” said Munger. “But because it’s so cold we can pretty much count on anything that’s there today will be there on Friday.”
On Thursday, the festival begins with the Classic Team Sprints and run through Sunday with the Penn Cycle Fat Tire Loppet.
