Police believe six people found unconscious in South St. Paul Saturday night had taken an unknown substance by accident earlier in the day.

The six people were found sprawled on the lawn of the home on the 200 block of Bircher Avenue in South St. Paul.  That neighborhood is directly across Concord Street from Kaposia Landing.

"Based on the signs and symptoms we observed on-scene, we suspected that it was related to an opiod overdose," said South St. Paul police Sgt. Cory Slifko. "We can't confirm what the substance was until further testing is done on what we recovered."

All six of the victims, most of them men, were unconsicous and not breathing when police arrived just before midnight Saturday.

According to a statement by South St. Paul police, medics on the scene used life saving measures on the victims, including overdose reverser Narcan.

The six are now getting treatment in local hospitals.

Names and ages of the victims are not released.

"They were all young adults," said Sgt. Slifko, who added that the owner of the home was away at the time of the incident.
