Summer Food Service Program in full swing across Minnesota

Nearly 1,000 sites are serving up free, healthy meals and snacks this summer to students 18-years-old and younger in Minnesota. The meals are part of the Summer Food Service Program put on by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Over 3.4 million meals were served last summer thanks to the program.

"If you show up and you're a kid, you get a meal, no questions asked," Flanagan said.

The St. Paul Public School summer food truck makes 10 daily stops, including Friday morning's stop at Unity Park in Roseville where around 12 kids were waiting before the window even opened.

Friday's meal consisted of a munchable, apples, carrots, and milk.

The Summer Food Service Program is a program the Lt. Gov. is familiary with. "I was a kid who used free and reduced price lunch," she said. "I am also a former youth worker and this is what I did. I counted meals and made sure kids had meals."

Besides the food, there's music, bubbles, chalk and more for kids to enjoy at the food sites.

You can find summer meal sites through the Department of Education's website or by following the information below.
