According to Michael Russo, questionable deals and complaints from other Wild employees were reasons for the firing.

Minnesota hockey statesman Lou Nanne says it's unusual for a GM to be fired in late July.

"I know what I'd do going forward, I'd make certain I got as good a man as I could get to run the operation.  Some good guys were taken off the market, like Kenny Hall and Ronnie Francis got new jobs."

Hartman commented that he didn't think Fenton's roster moves had helped the team. "Do any of them look great? That's my question," he said.

Leipold and Fenton had a relationship predating their time with the Minnesota Wild.  Fenton was assitant GM in Nashville.  Leipold used to own the Predators.
