A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the Twin Cities metro and across central and southern Minnesota, while a Blizzard Warning covers parts of western Minnesota.

A significant storm that the National Weather Service calls "potentially historic" is arriving late Wednesday brining snow, rain and other precipitation and strong wind. The metro could see between eight inches to a foot of snow by Friday. Eighteen to 24 inches could come down in Redwood Falls and Willmar.

"We're going to see a mixture of rain, snow and blowing snow, sleet, freezing rain and thunderstorms," WCCO meteorologist Mike Lynch said. "It will turn to all snow Thursday afternoon and continue through Thursday night."
The southeast corner of the state, including Rochester, is expected to see moderate snowfall between two and six inches.
A potentially historic storm will arrive late Wednesday, bringing a variety of precip types, strong wind gusts in excess of 50 mph, and very heavy snow totals.
