The 15th reported homicide of the year in St. Paul is a woman whose body was found in a car after gunfire rang out early Wednesday morning in a residential area on the city’s west side.

There are no arrests and authorities have released no other information on the victim.

Police had to work to disperse a crowd of onlookers who came onto the street following the incident around 3:00 a.m. near the intersection of Hall Ave. and W. Stevens Street.

“There’s a lot of emotion that could be involved with people in the neighborhood who were traumatized by hearing the gunshots,” said Steve Linders of St. Paul police. “They’re scared, and they don’t know what happened or who’s involved. Emotions did run high, but we were able to de-escalate it relatively quickly.”

The woman reportedly was in a car that appeared to be headed east on Stevens, the car hitting several other vehicles before coming to a stop.

Rescue crews arrived at the scene but the woman could not be revived.

Investigators are looking for clues and asking if anyone who has information about the shooting to contact them
