More gunfire erupted in Minneapolis Sunday night, claiming the life of a teenager who police say was a passenger in a car traveling through the north side.

The death of the 17-year-old came less than 24 hours after a man died in a hail of gunfire that strafed through a popular intersection in the heart of Uptown, wounding 11 other people.

According to the Minneapolis police department, 22 people were shot during the weekend.

“The numbers that we are seeing, truly, it’s a public health crisis,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo. “We’re going to need all stakeholders to step up, be a part of the discussions for solutions, and help us as we navigate, certainly, through this.”

It was around 8:00 p.m. Sunday when police got a call that a person was shot, with officers finding the victim near the intersection of Knox and 31st avenues.

Police believe someone fired a shot at the car the victim was riding in, and that the car traveled some distance before the he was dropped off.

Emergency crews found the teenager not breathing and without a pulse.

He later died at North Memorial Hospital.

The name of the victim is not released and there are no arrests.
