The rivalry never disappoints.

Playing before a roaring sellout crowd in St. Paul, St. Thomas beat arch-rival St. John's in overtime 74-72, the Johnnies' last-ditch shot for the win bouncing off the rim as Tommie fans rushed the court in celebration.

Anders Nelson put St. Thomas ahead for good with a basket with 38 seconds left in overtime.

The Tommies (15-1, 11-0 MIAC) wiped out an 11-point second half deficit, thanks in part to the reserves that outscored the Johnnies' bench players 38-12.

The rankings released earlier Monday had St. Thomas 7th while St. John's was 13th.

David Stokman and Zach Hanson each had 17 points to lead St. John's (13-3, 9-2 MIAC), which has dropped two in a row after losing at Carlton last Saturday.

With their 15th straight win, St. Thomas remains atop the MIAC men's basketball standings with an 11-0 league record.

The Johnnies are now 9-2 in the conference.
