Twins fans have been waiting. And waiting. And waiting. It was announced just after the 3:00pm trade deadline the Twins did in fact add another pitcher to the stable. Giants relief pitcher Sam Dyson is coming to Minnesota in exchange for three prospects.
In exchange for Dyson, San Francisco gets Twins prospects Kai-Wei Teng (pitcher), Prelander Berroa (pitcher) and Jaylin Davis (outfielder). None of those prospects is in the top 30 of the Twins minor league system.

In 49 games this season, Dyson is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA. He has 47 strikeouts in 51 innings, and a WHIP of 0.90. Over his career, he is 23-23 with a 3.29 ERA.

— Dan Hayes (@DanHayesMLB) July 31, 2019The trade for Dyson follows a trade with Miami over the weekend which brought Sergio Romo to the bullpen. Romo made his first Twins appearance Tuesday night against his former team during a one-run game. Romo made it through the 8th inning without allowing a run, pounding his chest as he walked off the field.
The Twins, hoping to hold off the surging Cleveland Indians in the Central, have been trying to add pitching, whether starters or relievers, via trade. Most signs pointed to a slow market, but a flurry of activity right at the deadline moved some significant pieces.
The biggest move of the day goes to Houston. The Astros got pitcher Zack Greinke from Arizona, albeit for a steep price. They parted with 3 of their top 5 prospects in order to add Greinke who is 10-4 with a 2.87 ERA. Along with Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole, the Astros now have a lethal 1-2-3 starting pitcher punch.
In one other minor move, the Twins added a minor league relief pitcher from the Milwaukee for cash considerations. Marcos Diplan, a 22-year-old righthander, has a 4.99 ERA in 30 games for Biloxi of the Class AA Southern League. He'll be designated for assignment to Pensacola in the Twins system.
