Gov. Tim Walz is scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday to discuss the state's response to the federal government shutdown.

For about 6,100 federal workers in Minnesota, Monday was their 24th straight day on furlough or working for no pay.

"My team worked throughout the weekend and has been since we took office to prepare what the impacts are to Minnesota and what the potential courses of action are," Walz said during a legislative forum on Monday morning.

Walz says he wants to make sure his administration is "mitigating the impact, especially on the most vulnerable" and to provide some certainty to those affected.

State budget commissioner Myron Frans said the the lack of federal funds is making more work for the state, and that could require some more spending at least in the short term.

This is the fourth time since 2013 that Minnesota's contingency response team is dealing with a federal government shutdown.
