Construction on Minnesota's major league soccer stadium is over and soon the keys will be handed over to Minnesota United FC.
“It’s a really great moment and a culmination of 20 months of hard work for all the women and men. Nearly 2,000 people have had a hand in this thing,” said Greg Huber, Project Executive with Mortenson Construction.
The $250 million, privately funded stadium is finished on schedule said Huber. Allianz Field has been widely acclaimed for its modern design and use of environmentally-sensitive systems and materials.
“We’ve done a heck of a test through this Minnesota winter and it’s performed really, really well,” said Huber.
Mortenson reports 2,020 workers performed 650,000 hours of on-site work, with 33 percent of that work performed by minorities and another 11 percent by women.
$46.5 million was paid in direct wages to the construction workers themselves and over 90 percent of the labor came from local companies.
Minnesota United FC will host it's inaugural match on April 13th against New York City FC.
