According to a release from the team, center Mikko Koivu will not be re-signed for the 2020/21 season. Koivu debuted with the team in 2005 and became the team's captain in 2009.
In a statement, Wild General Manager Bill Guerin says that Koivu will be missed, but his legacy will stay with the team.
"His hard work, dedication and team-first mentality will be extremely difficult to replace in our lineup. Off the ice, Mikko's impact in the State of Hockey was immeasurable as he went out of his way to make a positive impact on so many people in our community, including his charitable contributions to Children's Minnesota.
We thank Mikko for everything he has done for our organization and wish him and his family the best in the future."
Koivu ends his time with the Wild leading the club in many all-time categories.
Koivu ranks first in #mnwild history in games played (1,028), assists (504), points (709), plus/minus rating (plus-70), shots (2,270), PPP (251), PPA (191), SHP (25), multi-point games (153), faceoffs (19,290) faceoffs won (10,354) and faceoff % (53.7).
