It's been a long wait for the Wild to turn their season around.
In nine games this month, they have just one win.
One.
And in the current home stand, their record is 0-2-1.
0 as in zero wins.
Not the way a team in the state of hockey gets ready for a playoff run.
If there is one.
Going into Tuesday night's home game against Anaheim, the Wild find themselves on the fringes of the playoff race.
They have the eighth-best record in the NHL western conference.
Barely.
Colorado, Chicago, and Vancouver are all one point back.
Coach Bruce Boudreau didn't sense any nervousness in the locker room following Monday's practice.
"I thought the mood was upbeat in there," he said, a day after the Wild's dismal performance in a 4-0 loss to St. Louis.
"They had their 12 hours to sulk, but if you stay sulky, man, you're not getting anywhere."
And Boudreau feels his players want to go somewhere this season.
But Boudreau admits they need a jolt.
"You try to be able to create it through practice and things, it doesn't take much," he said, pointing out the recent success of teams with low seeds making significant runs in the postseason.
Remember, the LA Kings won the 2012 Stanley Cup out of the eight seed.
With the girl's high school hockey state tournament starting Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center, the Wild leave on a short road trip to play the Rangers in New York on Thursday and in Detroit the following night.
"Anything can happen. If you don't believe that, there's no use in trying to get in," said Boudreau. "We believe it and we will fight right to the bitter end."
