The Twins have found a roster spot for super-utility player Marwin Gonzalez.

It was a spot that had been held by outfielder Zack Granite, who was designated for release or assignment.

The signing of Gonzalez was officially announced on Monday after reports of the deal made the rounds last week.

Granite played in 40 games for the Twins in 2017, mostly in center field, hitting .237 with one homer and 12 RBI.

He languished last season in AAA Rochester with a .211 batting average and was never recalled, with fellow outfielder Jake Cave getting the nod to fill in for the injured Byron Buxton.

Cave remains on the 40-man roster in Spring Training and is trying to make his first Opening Day roster as a backup outfielder.

Others still on the roster and trying to make it as a reserve outfielder are Michael Reed and LaMont Wade.
