Former Twins Player Ron Coomer Opens Resturant in Illinois

In the midst of his fifth season as the radio broadcaster for the Chicago Cubs, Ron Coomer is adding another title to his growing resume: Restaurant owner. Coomer, who played for the Twins from 1995 to 2000 and represented Minnesota at the All-Star Game in 1999, recently opened Coom’s Corner in Lockport, Illinois.

It's an endeavor that has been on his mind for a while now, an idea he started pursuing after Target Field was built. But when the Cubs came calling in 2013, the Chicago native had to put those plans on the back-burner to join their radio team.

Coomer played for the Cubs in 2001 and was excited to return to his hometown. But his desire to own a restaurant was still there and when his high school buddies called him to tell him about a place for sale in Lockport, he jumped at the opportunity.

“Lockport a great town. I went to high school there, a lot of my buddies still live there… I had the opportunity, took advantage of it, and now we have our own little place,” Coomer told WCCO Radio.

His favorite dish that they have on offer is a rib roast, but less extravagant options are also available.

“I wouldn’t be a good South Side of Chicago kid if I didn’t have good pizza, right?” Coomer said.

Coomer was a guest of Lindsay Guentzel, producer of The Chad Hartman Show,  on the Twins Magazine show on April 7.
