Over 100 thousand people attend the Minnesota State Fair everyday, but the fairground streets are still relatively empty when the doors first open at 6 am.
There's still a line — there's always a line — but on the opening day Thursday, in the 20 or so minutes between when the doors opened and the sun rose, it was mainly a few older early risers along with vendors on their way to their posts. Inside, the rides weren't yet spinning and not a single beer had been poured (that starts at 8 a.m, as some discovered the hard way).
"The first 15 or 20 people in line for the fair are professionals," Walz told News Talk 830 WCCO Reporter Mark Freie . "For us, we're going to go see some of the new stuff."
Among the few, the proud and the early was longtime News Talk 830 WCCO host Dave Lee, whose show broadcasts live every morning from the station both for the duration of the fair.
