A 17-foot tall Fraser Fir from Happy Land Tree Farm in Sandstone, Minn., a 600-acre farm which won back-to-back Grand Champion prizes at the 2018 and 2019 State Fairs.
Due to construction, it's the first time in five years a tree has found a home in the Capitol rotunda, a tradition dating back to the 1980s to showcase a Minnesota-grown product. It's set to be decorated on Wednesday.
"A lot of work goes into them," Robert Wellnitz with Happy Land Christmas Tree Farm said. "From planting every year, they have to shear them and fertilize. I don't think people understand the man hours put into every tree."
