Broadcast Journalist Laura Oakes has done news, producing, podcasting, and plenty of feature reporting and writing since starting at WCCO Radio in 1996. She has covered many major news events for WCCO, and has won several local and regional awards for her work. Laura is one of two newsroom editors, overseeing daily coverage and reporter assignments in addition to her drivetime news anchoring on weekday afternoons. A native of Shakopee, Laura attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where she studied Communication and History. She and her husband, Chris are new-ish empty nesters now that their son is off to college. They enjoy home remodeling and decorating, long neighborhood walks with an energetic pooch, and as much travel as possible. In her free time, Laura loves to write and work on her guitar and piano skills.
