The Gopher football team found out its bowl destination for 2022, and it may not be the destination fans had hoped for.
Late December in New York City is more for New Year's Eve than a college football game, but the Gophers will be there on December 29th when they play Syracuse in the Pinstripe Bowl.
The game takes place at Yankee Stadium, and Gopher coach PJ Fleck is pretty excited about it.
"One of my top three bowl experiences was the one in New York," said Fleck, who was an assistant coach with Rutgers at the 2011 Pinstripe Bowl.
"It's so differences from most bowl experiences," he said. "Some show you, and say, 'hey. here's the beach, have a good time, see you in five days.' This is something that's really, really in-depth. The culture, and the excitement, and Times Square, and being in Manhattan."
To be fair, the game is being played in the Bronx, and there are beaches in south Brooklyn's Coney Island.
The average temperature in New York City for December is in the low 40's.
Fleck did point out that very few of his players have ever been to New York City.
The Gophers are in their fourth bowl game in the past five seasons.
Their record this season is eight wins and four losses.
Syracuse is seven-and-five, and is making its third trip to the Pinstripe Bowl.
The Orange won their other two appearances.
