Guerin takes some of the blame for the Wild’s rough start

The Minnesota Wild have opened their season to a disappointing 1-3-1 start plagued with inconsistent defense and goaltending. But when it comes to pointing the finger, who should take the blame?

Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin joined News Talk 830 WCCO's Chad Hartman to share his thoughts on the team's start and take some of the blame himself.

The Wild picked up their first win in Montreal earlier this week in a game that seemed more typical for the roster Guerin has assembled, but the team's quick four losses threw off even the general manager.

"It was surprising, but you know what. I guess the way I look at it is that we probably thought we were just going to pick up where we left off in the regular season and that we were just going to come out and have a great start," Guerin said. "No. We missed the mark on reestablishing ourselves as a hard team to play against."

Guerin says that the team missed a step, and no one knows more than the players and coaches. He says that when you have a team that isn't "pretty," you have to be aggressive and play your brand of hockey, something he says he saw in the Wild on Tuesday.

"We've gotten ourselves kind of back on track. It seems," he said.

With a long season ahead, the Wild will have plenty of time to right the ship, but it would put Guerin and the fans at ease to see it done sooner rather than later.

"We have to play hard," Guerin said. "We have to compete. If we don't, we aren't doing ourselves any favors."

The Wild lace up their skates once again in Ottawa tonight at 6 p.m. before playing a series of road back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday.
