The nickname of Minnesota's women's pro hockey team is kinda cool.

It was announced Monday morning that they'll be known as the Minnesota Frost.

"I love it," said Frost captain Kendall Coyne Schofield when asked about the new name during an introductory Zoom meeting.

Also revealed is the team's logo, a stylized capital "F" that looks a little like a lightning bolt.

Or an icicle.

"Such a strong, bold, intense logo," Schofield said. "

All six teams of the Professional Women’s Hockey League played their inaugural season without nicknames.

The other five team names are Toronto Sceptres, Montreal Victoire, Ottawa Charge, Boston Fleet, and New York Sirens.

The WPHL is owned by one entity, the Mark Walter Group, and it was decided to hold off on team branding during the first season.

Coached by Ken Klee and featuring a roster chock-full of Minnesota natives, the team finished in fourth place to lock up a playoff spot.

In the post-season, Minnesota got by Toronto in the first round then tripped up Boston in the final, taking the championship in a winner-take-all fifth series game.

Minnesota had an average attendance of 7,138 for home games at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.

The home opener on Jan. 6 drew 13,361, at the time the largest North American crowd for a professional women's hockey game.
