Hockey life after the Wild not going the way he wanted it, former captain Mikko Koivu says he is retiring.
The 37-year old Finn signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets after parting ways with the Wild after 15 seasons. Koivu started the season on the COVID list, and played in seven games, scoring one goal and one assist with the Blue Jackets.
"Every game was kind of like I had to push to get ready," Koivu said Tuesday. "I just couldn't get the rhythm. Just didn't feel the way I want to feel as a hockey player."
Koivu is the franchise leader in a number of categories for the Minnesota Wild, including games (1028), points (709), and assists (504).
