The WNBA announced that Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier has been named the Kia WNBA Western Conference Player of the Month for the first month of the 2025 season.

This marks the first of Collier’s career, making her the sixth Lynx player to receive the honor.

Collier is off to a dominant start - much like her Lynx team which is now 8-0 on the season.

During the month of May, Collier averaged 26.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.4 blocks. Minnesota opened the season with a 6-0 start in May, the team’s best start since 2017.

It's continuing in June as the Lynx try to build on their heartbreaking loss in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals last year. Collier had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Lynx beat the Phoenix Mercury 88-65 on Tuesday night for their second series victory in five days.

Minnesota has started a season 8-0 for the fourth time in franchise history — the same amount as all of the other WNBA teams combined.

The Lynx also beat the Mercury 74-71 on Friday without Collier, who was out with a lingering knee injury.

Minnesota has been finding ways to win close games so far. Before beating Golden State by 11 on Sunday and Phoenix by 23 Tuesday, the Lynx had won their previous four games by a total of 18 points.

There seems to be a lot of momentum for a rematch of last year's final two teams, the Lynx and New York Liberty. Just like the Lynx, New York is undefeated so far. It marks the latest that more than one franchise had been undefeated this long into the season since both the Lynx and Los Angeles Sparks started 2016 winning their first 11 games.

If you're waiting for those two teams to play, it'll be a bit. The Lynx and Liberty won't play in the regular season for a few more months with their four matchups coming in the span of a few weeks — the first of which is on July 30.

The Lynx now have a few days off - a chance for Collier to get her balky knee some rest - and play on the road Sunday against the Dallas Wings who are off to a rough 1-7 start and dealing with their young star's injury issues with Minnesota's own Paige Bueckers in concussion protocol.
