Olivia Miles scored a career-high 28 points and set a WNBA rookie record with eight 3-pointers, and the Minnesota Lynx held off the Golden State Valkyries 87-84 on Thursday night for their sixth straight victory.

Miles was 8 of 11 from 3-point range to surpass Caitlin Clark and Crystal Robinson, who shared the previous rookie mark with seven. The No. 2 overall draft pick made her fifth straight 3 with 6:24 remaining in the first half to reach 17 points, while the rest of her teammates had just 14. She also made her first two 3s of the third quarter.

Not known as a strength in Miles' game, she had been ice-cold from beyond the 3-point line, and Golden State was clearly going to force her to shoot outside shots and keep her out of the lane where's she's been deadly scoring or passing.

"Yeah, I just had to be confident going in, you know. I knew my shot was off the past couple of games and couldn't lose my confidence," Miles said after blistering Golden State from deep. "My coaches are always in my ear just be confident when I when I shoot it, so I wasn't going to force it downhill. I was going to take what they were giving me and luckily I was going in tonight."

Minnesota (8-2) improved to 7-0 all-time against Golden State, which joined the league last an expansion team last season.

The Lynx trailed 75-70 with seven minutes remaining before scoring the next 11 points.

After Golden State pulled within 86-84 with 33.8 seconds left, Courtney Williams dribbled down the clock before finding Miles, who attempted a driving layup that rolled off the rim. But the Lynx grabbed the offensive rebound and Williams went 1 of 2 at the foul line for a three-point lead with 5.4 seconds left.

Miles was also quick to point out how she took care of the basketball as the team's point guard, something that shows her maturity just a few games into her first season.

"I'm most proud of the 11 turnover because Cheryl (Reeve), she'd be upset about that for sure, for sure," Miles joked. "I'm just grateful that we were able to take care of the ball, value possessions, because like you saw, it's a possession game. And they could have won at the end or tied it at the end and it really is decided by one possession."

Williams finished with 17 points, Kayla McBride added 14 and Natasha Howard had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota. The Lynx went 13 of 26 from distance.

On Thursday, the WNBA announced Miles was named Kia WNBA Rookie of the Month for games played from May 8–31. The monthly honor is the first of her career, and the seventh monthly award in franchise history (Napheesa Collier, Crystal Dangerfield; 2x, Diamond Miller, Maya Moore; 2x).

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft led all rookies in scoring (15.4 ppg), assists (5.9 apg), steals (1.5 spg) and efficiency (20.0) during the month. The guard helped lead Minnesota to a league-best 6-2 record in May as the Lynx closed the month on a four-game winning streak.

She leads all rookies in points, assists and steals per game and ranks sixth in the WNBA in assists, eighth in steals and 18th in points per contest. Those aren't rookie of the year numbers, they're all-WNBA numbers.
